CJALtd have been contracted by the Newcastle City Council to produce two external marker mosaics, each being 1m2 depicting themes agreed with the Waverley Park Project Committee – ‘Flora and fauna’ with local heritage and sports played in the grounds of the park. It has been agreed that glass mosaic will be used as well as the marble tiles to increase the vibrancy of the final features. These mosaics will be made to a diamond format held securely in brick plinths that will raise and tilt the mosaics toward the footpaths for easy viewing. These plinths are much like the ‘Montrose Markers’. Our objective is to work with up to 15 community members in a three hour practical workshop to produce artwork depicting the selected theme for incorporation into the art features. We will also incorporate three local primary schools working with as many as fifteen pupils per school living in the project catchment area to produce artwork depicting the selected theme for incorporation into the art feature, using as much pupil produced artwork as possible and introduce mosaic techniques to enable the completion of individual mini-mosaic projects by each participant. CJALtd endeavour to involve participants in the construction of the art features where possible.
