Jade Doorstep Green Mosaics reach completion
The mosaics in Jade Doorstep Green, Grangetown Middlesborough have finally reached completion after a long running struggle against sustained levels of vandalism on site.
Throughout the installation process the features were marred by any form of weapon at hand to the vandals such as rocks and glass. Running repairs were made on site as other work continued while trying to change the attitudes of the children who were known to destroy the features as the contractors left the site.
After numerous repairs to the central feature and the complete replacement of two of the four smaller features, CJALtd had left the site more confident that the levels of vandalism had in fact fallen as the vandals got used to the new outdoor leisure facility.
CJALtd wish to thank the staff and pupils of the four schools in the area that participated in the development process and to F.R.O.G. who show great resilience in there efforts to changing the attitudes of their community.

Mosaic floorscape marks Viewing Platform for Bamburgh Parish
Jamieson's have been briefed by Bamburgh Parish Council to construct a Viewing Platform at Bamburgh Lighthouse overlooking Stag Rock. The group have asked the team to create a 'floorscape' mosaic using natural materials as local to the area as possible. The 'Floorscape' theme has been set by the client to reflect the hidden symbols in the area close to the platform. The platform has been designed to incorporate interpretation boards installed on 'Whinstone' plinths - a material synonymous with Bamburgh Castle.
Construction is schedule to begin in early October 2006.

CJALtd Meet the Primary schools of Grangetown for Jade Green
| June 2006
The team have visited Whale Hill, Caedmon, St. Mary's and Grangetown Primary school gathering designs and ideas for the five mosaics to be installed in the Jade Doorstep Green. As a practical exercise following the design phase, each school completed a 4foot mosaic dragon (as part of the George & The Dragon theme) made of coloured paper squares. The children enjoyed learning the technique of mosaicing and the schools benefited by gaining ownership of the completed piece. The schools will be given the children's drawing in a bound Consultation Book with a CD of photos illustrating there involvement in the project.

Jade Doorstep Green Project Secured
| May 2006
CJALtd have recently secured a contract with the Jade Doorstep Green Project in Grangetown, Middleborough. The aim of this project is to produce a community sources design for the creation of a circular floorscape feature two metres in diameter.
CJALtd will collaborate with four local primary schools to a maximum of 15 pupils per school living in the project catchments area to produce artwork depicting the selected theme for incorporation into four 600 x 900cm art features to be set within the designated blockwork boarder to the central mosaic.
With a high level of community participation through various consultations in the area, CJALtd will create one two metre diameter mosaic for external siting incorporating the George & Dragon theme using a variety of materials including metal tesserae complimentary to the palette of materials and colours incorporated into the overall site.

Newcastle Falcons Open Clarewood Green
| April 2006
In April 2006 the Stanhope Street Residents' Association organised the official opening event of the Clarewood Doorstep Green in Newcastle. The £167,000 project transformed a tired and un-kept space prone to littering and dog fouling into a community garden for the residents' to enjoy and be proud of.
CJALtd was approached to incorporate Public Art features with the remit to include as much Community involvement as possible. The Jamieson team conducted consultations with a local primary school, the Residents' Association members and the general public, allowing the local community to be heavily involved throughout the design phase.
Designs collated were incorporated into the central mosaic, the four metalwork structures and the signage.
Director of CJALtd, Rob Jamieson said: 'Community members who participated in our consultations are able to see there own designs at first hand in these features, creating a real sense of ownership.'
Over 250 people arrived to see the Clarewood Doorstep Green opened by the former Newcastle Falcons and Scotland Rugby skipper Doddie Weir. Doddie brought the current Falcons first team squad members Matt Thompson and Hall Charlton.
